Fr. Charles Rochas

I am a priest of the Emmanuel Community for the Archdiocese of Lyons, France. Prior to my ordination in 2006, I received a Licence in Philosophy and Licence in History at the Sorbonne University (Paris). I served as a priest in a parish in Lyon for 6 years and then as a chaplain at the ESM in Rome for one year before becoming the Director there for 3 years. I recently completed a Doctorare in Theology at the Angelicum (Rome). I am so excited to be the Director of the ESM here in New York launched in 2017.

Fr. Paul Glennon

I grew up in Ireland and received an BEng (Hons) Degree in Mechanical Engineer, working 10 years in various fields. During this period I had a strong spiritual experience that led me to do ESM Rome. This was a transformative experience that included the call to priesthood. I was ordained for the Dublin diocese in 2015. After 2 years in parish I was generously allowed to take up the mission of chaplain in ESM New York. It’s a great joy to work with young people and to see God acting in so many ways during the foundation of ESM in the Bronx.

I sometimes get mistaken for a student but more often I’m called MOMS a.k.a. Manager of Missions and Services. I did ESM Rome in 2014-2015 and then worked as a youth minister in London. Now I’m super happy to be bringing some Englishness to the Bronx.

Debby Kruszewski

Hello! I am from Saints John and Paul in Larchmont a parishioner all my life. I took my step forward into the Emmanuel Community in February 2018. I am an Author of 3 fiction novels, run a consulting business and joined the ESM team in November 2018 at an operational level. I have the best of all worlds to do rewarding work while spreading the word of God. I am grateful to be part of the team!

Our Students

Meet our 2018-19 ESM students! They snapped these profile photos at World Youth Day in Panama. We are so blessed to work with this amazing group of young people.

Flora Fazekas, 28

Szia! I am from Hungary. I studied to be an environmental and engineering manager. Before I came here, I was a project leader for 2 years. I love working with a team. I really like playing flute and singing. I have a worship band at home. I would like to touch people’s hearts with music.

Hannah Kalvelage, 19

Hal(l)o! (Can you see mine already?) My name is Hannah, and with my 19 years I am the duckling of the students. I finished high school in my hometown of Munster, Germany, before coming to ESM NY. I love playing the piano and the recorder and I try to teach myself the guitar and the djembe. I am a big fan of drinking tea and making terrible puns.

Joanna Statnik, 29

Czesc! I am 29 years old, born Polish, but living in Denmark. I work as an airport designer. My biggest love after Jesus is sailing and airports and teamwork. I love St. Augustine’s saying: “Act as everything depends on you. Trust everything depends on God.”

Maria Bridges, 23

Dia Duit. I’m Irish and I stereotypically drink a lot of tea. I studied pure math and worked the last year tutoring maths in Maynooth University. I am passionate about the beauty of paradoxes, Chesterton and climbing trees. This year is a wonderful blessing and adventure.

Marie Lea Ghysselinckx, 22

Hola, my name is ‘child of the one truth king” and my parents gave me the name of Marie-Lea. Marie from our mother Mary and Lea from my Grandmother who is in heaven. My big sister calls me ‘butterfly” (because she wants me to remember) that I need metamorphosis to renew again, and to stay like a caterpillar (all my life). Yes, that is who I am, Butterfly from Ecuador!

Nina Del Rosario, 25

Kamusta, my name means “Little Christian Girl of the Rosary”. I am the 4th of 7 children and grew up in Sydney, Australia with a Filipino background. I studied industrial design in university and have been working in this field for 3 years. I love crafts, singing, watching movies and Jesus!

Remi Martin, 20

Salut, I come from Liege in Belgium. I just finished my catering high school. I love hiking, watching movies and sleeping!

Teresa Hodal, 23

Hello, I am from Australia and am one of 6 children, 5 girls and 1 boy. I enjoy drinking unusually large cups of tea (my friends call them fish bowls), dancing and being spontaneous. I am known for my uncontrollable laughter, for talking a lot and so fast that no one (including my family) can understand me and for being plain goofy.

Theophane Duval, 22

Salut, I’m from France. I just finished my studies in web development. I wanted to do the ESM to answer the call of Pope Francis and to give one year of my life for the poor. I have found ESM to be a great way to grow in my faith, my love for others and to help me come closer to Christ.

Vianney Bertrand, 21

Salut! I’m from Paris. I have a bachelor’s degree in economics. I am the last of 8 children! I like sports, playing guitar, traveling & big cities. I’m really bad at cooking!
